Network connectivity under investigation

Incident Report for IT

Postmortem

On November 15th, the primary fiber connection between Lincoln and Omaha was severed causing a brief network outage for the University. This incident also forced all Network Nebraska traffic to route on a slower network link causing significant network congestion. Lumen was able to identify the cause of the break, caused by a rodent, and had it repaired by the end of the day restoring all network traffic to the expected paths.

Identified

ITS has identified a fiber cut in a third-party provider's connection as the cause of the issues, and steps are being taken to remediate impact to affected services. Most facilities on the Kearney, Lincoln, and Omaha campuses have at least limited connectivity at this time. Workarounds are currently being implemented to restore connectivity to some Outstate and Network Nebraska locations that remain offline at this time.
